PRE-PILATES
FOUNDATION – Pilates for Beginners

Want to start Pilates but not sure you'll manage on a reformer?

We've created the perfect class for you: Pre-pilates Foundations

The ideal first class for anyone who has never trained on a reformer or other Pilates equipment, or who wants to go back to basics. You'll learn how the equipment works, how to breathe correctly, how to activate your deep muscles and how to do the basic exercises safely. A small, friendly group that builds your confidence for further Pilates practice.

Pre-Pilates Foundations

Breathing

Breathing is one of the foundations of the Pilates method. In class you learn to breathe consciously so that your breath supports movement, improves trunk stability and reduces tension in the body. Working with the breath helps you activate your deep muscles, improves concentration and lets you move with more control and flow. It's a skill you'll use not only in training but in everyday life.

Reformer

Get to know the reformer inside out – a sliding carriage moved by springs with adjustable resistance. You start with the basics: how to set the springs, where to place your feet, how to get on and off safely. Then we move on to simple beginner exercises that improve coordination, stretch and strengthen your muscles.

Mat

You train with your own body weight, on the mat and with small props. You work on pelvic and spinal alignment in movement, breathing and core strength. On the mat nothing supports your position, so you immediately see where control is missing.

Start with Private Sessions

If you are returning after an injury, have back problems or simply prefer to start without a group, your first sessions can be one-to-one. After a few sessions we encourage you to join group classes.

What Do You Learn in Beginner Classes?

The first weeks build the foundation for everything that follows. We start with the equipment and the simplest set-ups, and only then move on to exercises. The beginner programme includes:

using the reformer – setting the springs, getting on and off the carriage safely, working with the straps and footbar,
pelvic and spinal alignment – the starting point you return to in every exercise,
breathing coordinated with movement – in classical Pilates every exercise has its own breathing rhythm,
the basic mat and reformer repertoire – in the original order, where each exercise prepares you for the next,
recognising your limits – if an exercise is too hard, ask the instructor for a modification instead of forcing the movement.

After this stage you can move up to intermediate classes, try the other equipment, or stay at the basic level as long as you like.

FAQ

If you can't find your answer here, message us on WhatsApp or call +48 451 639 905. You can also email info@pilangopilates.com.
Do I need to be fit to start Pilates?

No. Your fitness or flexibility level doesn't matter – we adapt the exercises to your current range of motion.

I've never used a reformer. Will I manage?

Yes. Beginner classes start by explaining the equipment and showing you how to use it. The spring resistance is adjustable, so every exercise can be adapted to you.

Reformer or mat for my first class?

The reformer is the better start because the equipment partly guides the movement. The mat teaches you more about your own body but can be demanding from the first lesson. Ideally, practise both.

Do I need a private session before joining a group class?

No, you can join a beginner class straight away. If you're returning after an injury or have specific issues, we usually suggest starting one-to-one.

What should I bring to my first class?

Fitted clothing that shows your alignment, grip socks and water. Equipment and props are provided. Please arrive 10–15 minutes early – before your first class we ask about any injuries or health issues.

I have back problems. Can I train on the reformer?

Usually yes, but it depends on your condition. Pilates often helps with chronic issues; with acute pain, a fresh injury or after surgery we start with private sessions. Message us and describe your situation.
